Creating a psychologically safe and healthy workplace
The Workplace Well-being and Mental Health toolkit and Supporting Individuals’ Mental Health toolkit provide workplaces with strategies to create a psychologically safe and healthy workplace. The toolkits are designed to support organizations to build a mental health strategy that is aligned with the National Standard of Canada for Psychological Health and Safety in the Workplace.
Workplace Well-being and Mental Health
Mental health affects how we think, feel, and act. It also helps determine how we handle stress, relate to others, and make choices. The Workplace Well-being and Mental Health toolkit provides workplaces with practical guidance to develop strategies that promote psychological well-being and increase employee capacity to manage stress, foster effective problem solving and coping skills, enhance self-efficacy and resiliency.
Why Invest in Workplace Psychological Well-being?
Supporting Individuals’ Mental Health
In any given year, 1 in 5 people in Canada will personally experience a mental health problem or illness. In 2011, over 20% of the Canadian working population experienced some form of mental illness, and approximately 30% of short and long-term disability claims were attributed to mental health. The promotion of mental health awareness in the workplace benefits all employees.
The Supporting Individuals’ Mental Health toolkit provides practical guidance to develop and promote strategies to help people with mental health conditions continue to work or return to work safely.
